A little juicy assignment came along my way a few days ago. Yes, it would seem that I like to take my time churning assignments out. Anyway, the assignment is a cross between real estate and holidays and was juicy in one sense of the word…
…yummy houses!
The location? A rather cosy yet quaint (my personal opinions) island on the East Coast of the US. From its website…
Hilton Head Island is one of South Carolina’s most beautiful barrier islands. It is the second largest barrier island on the East Coast. The overall length of the Island is about 12 miles and the widest point is approximately 5 miles.
Its natural beauty and expansive Atlantic beaches have made it a world-class resort destination for over 1.5 million visitors each year and why over 35,000 people have chosen to call the Island their permanent home.
…
Thousands of years before the first Spaniards set foot on the shores of the New World, this Sea Island was home to Native Americans dating back to at least 2000 B.C. Yemassee Indians hunted and farmed in this area until the early 18th century.
Today, the Island bears the name of the English explorer Captain William Hilton. In 1663, he was sent to prospect the Carolina region. Subsequent colonization of the area brought an era of cultivation where cotton, rice and indigo were harvested by slave labor on vast plantations. After the Civil War, the Island’s land was divided and bestowed to former slaves who would live quietly on Hilton head for the better part of the next century.
…
The development of Hilton Head Island began when a young, visionary landscape architect named Charles Fraser laid out the master plan for the Island’s south end community. The vision was to “lay lightly on the land” by building unobtrusive homes to blend into the landscape. Roads would wind around, not through, sensitive areas, and land would be set aside in its pristine state for the enjoyment of generations to come. The rest of the Island followed suit, creating a resort community like no other.
Hilton Head rentals includes both oceanfront and plantation views and range from bungalows to apartments. The one that I took a fancy to was a 2-bedroom apartment-style home overlooking the ocean for a rather fancy price of USD800 to USD1,600 a week. Yes, they don’t come cheap but at least one can take comfort that the apartments are fully furnished and well, it’s luxury living.
Yes, I can always dream, can’t I?

Recently, I was asked to review several TV shows/contests, one of which is currently ongoing and organized by Dockers.
Make Your Own Dockers® Commercial Contest allows people the chance to create a video advertisement for the clothing company. They may be viewed online and rated by views. The winner will then have their video advertisement submitted to NBC Universal, Inc for what they write as “consideration as a commercial to be shown during the June 13, 2008 broadcast of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as well as made available for a limited time online at NBC.com”.
The Dockers contest runs from 11:30 pm EDT, April 29 to 11:59pm, June 6 and consist of several phases (submission, finalist and grand final announcement). It is open only legal residents of the US aged 18 and above.
So far, they have received quite a bit of entries from all sorts of creative minds. Some remind me of home videos while others prove to be more stylish. One of my favourite entries is “We Speak Your Language” by shd0728 - the commercial is about the word “pants” in different languages. Pretty creative and very in tune with the modern world today. I hope it gets picked as one of the finalists for the contest!
Anyway, if you’re a resident of the States, have a fair bit of creative skill and am looking for that break into the media, this could just be it…of course cash prizes are always attractive but seriously, nothing beats seeing your name aired nationwide. The Dockers contest could be just the thing you need!

USA Network’s new original series In Plain Sight is about Mary Shannon (that lovely woman you see in the photo above) and her life/job as a US Marshal attached to the Federal Witness Protection Program.
From the site, the premise of the show revolves around…
Mary Shannon, who is based in the greater Albuquerque/Santa Fe area, protects and manages relocated Federal Witnesses who come from all over the country. The witnesses under her care can be anything from career criminals, congenital liars, thieves and murderers to those who have had the misfortune of witnessing or falling victim to a crime. For the innocents, testifying means leaving behind everything and everyone they know, cutting off all contact, changing identities and relocating to the unfamiliar southwest to build a new life as the reward for their good deed. But no matter what walk of life—or what side of the law—these people come from, they all have one thing in common: Someone wants them dead.
Luckily, Mary doesn’t have to bear the burden of this huge responsibility alone…
The series is set to premier on 1 June 2008 and has been reviewed to be “…suspenseful and witty” by critics.
For more info, do check out their official website here.
By the way, can you find the exact same photo here on their website???

USA Network’s new original series In Plain Sight features “Mary McCormack (Private Parts and The West Wing) as Mary Shannon. Her friends and family think she’s just a glorified courier, but she’s actually a U.S. Marshal, working for the highly secretive Witness Protection Program. Her job is to help relocate federal witnesses.”
While the series revolves around Shannon, US Marshal attached to the Federal Witness Protection Program, other characters are just as colourful and quirky. Take for example, Brandi Shannon, the lead character’s baby sister. As someone who lives in the moment, never bothered to get an education and tends to fall for the worst possible men, she reminds me a lot about many other movie/TV series characters. Luckily for me, I suppose, I don’t really know anyone who is like that. Maybe they do exist but I just haven’t run into them.
People would automatically assume that I think I’m a little like the lead character but no, I actually see more of myself in Mary’s partner, is a fifth generation US Marshal. Marshall Mann is rather focused in life and appears to be a jack of all trades, which comes in handy when tackling assignments together with Mary.
What about you? Is anyone you know similar to the characters in this series?
USA Network’s new original series In Plain Sight will premier on 1st June 2008 and it appears that critics look forward to seeing more of Shannon and co.

Founded by the LA area police officers, this nifty little website features a shop that sells virtually everything you need as a police officer, security professional or military personnel (even a wannabe would be interested in this!) - from things like tactical gear to holsters and footwear.
In case you think that this is just for the US domestic market, it isn’t - La Police Gear also takes international orders but naturally there are just some things that they won’t send over by airmail to you. These include defense technologies, batons, stun guns as well as pepper spray among other things.
There are other things worth checking out such as their tactical gear section whereby you can find emergency survival blankets, protective gear and water bottles/thermos!
Talk about providing security for all at the next level!

Since I’ve been doing relatively well with my other sponsored articles on this blog, I thought I’d join a new venture similar to PayPerPost and other sites specializing that allow you to make money online. Unlike PPP, Bloggerwave is catered for the European market rather than an American base, which makes it easier for me to take on assignments that are related to my region.
It’s still pretty new though so don’t anticipate a flurry of assignments coming in. One thing I do look forward to though is the kind of assignments I’ll be getting. Blogging about golf, and what-nots is kind of getting to me and some variety would be fun…not to mention rewarding.

Sometimes it’s terribly hard to be creative. I had this assignment once, a few weeks ago, and thought I tackled it well. Maybe too well…
What do you write when you know absolutely nothing about alcohol rehab or drug rehab centers? Sure, the place looks great, exactly like a spa and relaxation centre that anyone of us would go to if we had the cash. The horseback riding, hiking, surfing, yoga classes, massage and even acupuncture…they all sound tempting.
If you want to be an alcoholic and fly over to this great alcohol rehab place…
Y’know, despite my babbling about how difficult it was to tackle this assignment, I still managed it - ranting all the way throughout. *sigh*
I think I’ll go get a drink now…
