Every so often, I feel like eating pasta without a tomato base, even if it means tomato pesto which I’m nuts about. *grin*
I was first introduced to the idea of mince in brown sauce when we had dinner with some of Nil’s friends – it was very simple, yet hearty and I fell in love with it instantly. However, I wasn’t very sure what was in it or how to go about making it so the Internet proved to be a pretty wonderful tool. I made some adjustments to the original recipe and included mushrooms and onions as well as a small about of tomato just for colour.
Brown sauce mince with pasta
Fresh button mushrooms
Black pepper and salt to taste
- Diced onions, tomato and button mushrooms.
- In a pot/pan, fry the onions and tomato until soft before adding the mince beef. Fry until the beef is cooked then add in the beef stock and some water.
- Cover the pot and allow the mix to sit and simmer for a few minutes before adding the corn starch to thicken the sauce.
- Add salt and black pepper to taste; once the mince has thickened, turn off the heat and serve with freshly cooked pasta and some grated cheese.
