Trophies, plaques and dog tags!

Remember how we used to beam with pride whenever we receive trophies and plaques that bear our name and our achievement? The engraving, the shine on the silver…I think sometimes we see stars when the (imaginary) light catches our eyes. Humans by nature are prideful beings and what we own, we display…with much pride.

And yet some of us out there put our hearts on the line literally in forms of (the most extreme) tattoos and piercings, and the not so subtle ways, rings, necklaces and dog tags. One friend used to joke about how handcuffs were replaced with wedding rings, chokers with necklaces and dog tags to its animal counterpart.

I don’t know whether to take his comment seriously – it seems funny, yet it does have its logic. Part of me knows that I’d be proud to wear the markings of belonging to someone – like my wedding ring – because like the trophies we so proudly display at home, this is one life achievement that is worth showing off.

What do you think?

  1. i think it is human nature to feel appreciated on every achievement. it doesn’t matter if it is small or significant, as long as the achievement is recognize and appreciated. That’s how i teach my young one.

Trophies and medals with our name engraved on it is a pride of our past, things that we will never get it again in the future. Human by nature is prideful being? Absolutely rigtht.
