Back at home…

…things are getting exciting as the 2008 elections come to a close.

The results so far?

Former Minister for Women and Family lost to Anwar’s eldest daughter. Excellent really considering that the former minister thought it was not a big deal to make fun about female MPs and their bodily functions in Parliament.

Petaling Jaya Utara, my home ground, went to Tony Pua instead of Madam Chew. I have nothing against Madam Chew but I’d like to see some change after four years of putting up with soaring crime rates, potholes everywhere and well, collapsing back alleys.

Samy Vellu is out of Parliament!!! This has just got to be the best news of all time…the man has been in politics longer than the previous premier. For gawd’s sake, can someone just tell him to bloody resign before he becomes any more shameful than he already is????

On the side note, what’s wrong with keeping up to date with Malaysian politics even though I’ve migrated? Yes, someone messaged me with a tone that read “You’ve moved; I’m surprised that you still give a damn”.

Last I checked, I still hold a Malaysian passport and IC, and I do care about what happens at home – my family and friends are there, for crying out loud!!!!

This is the sort of mentality that is keeping overseas Malaysians from voting and from really making a difference because nothing turns people off more than cynicism from your fellow countrymen.

  1. I suppose everyone expected Shahrizat to win hands down.. You know what? I was at the school in Maarof where Joe had to vote, and I saw Nurul there. She smiled and said “Hi” to a grumpy me… coz I have been waiting for him for 30 minutes already – mine took less than 5 minutes! It’s already 1.19am over here in Malaysia and we’re still watching news for the updates :) Samy Vellu is out.. and poor Koh Tsu Koon also made an unexpected exit!

  2. funny enough, i got a similar response.. something like, “you’re gonna be migrating anyway, why would you care?”…

  3. I am extremely pleased with the results. 4 states lost and some of the big guns are out. You are right tho, just because one doesnt live in Malaysia doesnt mean one looses site with the going on’s. After all, it affects family and friends.

Time for a change hey :)

  4. Jayna: Sometimes I wonder why people want to even think of things like that? Is this attitude so ingrained into Malaysians??? =.=

(I’d tell them to go sock it! I care because I can. End of story.)

Mirebella: Yeah, me too!!! I’m super excited and very hopeful…I honestly hope that the change that is to come will be a good one for EVERYONE! :)

Zona: O’well…can’t please everyone! Btw, how are the wedding preps coming along? All excited??? ;)

  5. Hey! I love your blog, it’s funny and it makes me laugh! :P
Unfortunately, I am one of those Malaysian that doesn’t really care about Malaysia politic…. but I have to admit it’s still good to see some changes. I’d left home for about 13 years now, it’s hard to keep up with what’s happening in the country, especially politically wise. May be you will agree with me once you leave the country long enough, or may be not. Well… I am not the most patriotic person in the world anyway. :P But it’s always good to see people like you who care! =)
