Someone finally says it!

Yesterday, the second in rank (next to the prime minister and the King) came out on behalf of his “bosses” and declared Malaysia an Islamic state based on the fact that we have an official religion (even though we are governed by a constitution based on British civil law).

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Tuesday Malaysia is not a secular state but an Islamic nation with its own interpretation.

He said the country had never been affiliated to secularism but was always driven by the fundamentals of Islam as it is clearly stated in the constitution that Islam is the official religion.

“Islam is the official religion and we are an Islamic state. But as an Islamic state, it does not mean that we don’t respect the non-Muslims. The Muslims and the non-Muslims have their own rights (in this country),” he told reporters after officiating the “International Conference on the Role of Islamic States in a Globalised World” on behalf of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at a hotel here.

Backlash-wise, today, groups made headlines in The Star protesting this “announcement” saying that we are really secular more than religious. Yes, historically, we ARE secular but when we look at M’sia today, well…we are still living in denial.

Frankly if we look at the true meaning of secularism, Malaysia IS NOT a secular state. We have an official religion and even though we have the constitution, we put in policies that favour Muslims over non-Muslims (think of the NEP). Even our leaders have made mention many times of the non-possible rule of a non-Muslim premier! Nil actually found it funny and surprising when my dad told him that M’sia was to be and IS a secular state because France is a secular country and look at the difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing is this: has Najib’s announcement changed anything? Not really. It only gave us something to argue over instead of looking at the bigger picture. For me, I had better start packing my bags coz I know where I stand now.

Trying to keep busy.

With Nil gone, there is sudden a void at every turn.

I’ve gotten so used to be him being at home when I come back from work. Now, when I come home, he isn’t around, and the empty room is strange and cold. So I moved the plant that he gave me when he left last year (and before we got married) into the room. It reminds me of him and this plant is one strange thing – it’ll wilt if you don’t water it after four days but water it then and in about an hour, it’ll be as stiff as…well…nothing naughty here; it’s a plant, remember?

I’ve gotten so used to him hogging my computer that when I go into my workroom now, it’s just different. No one to kiss, no one to distract, no one to faking fighting-over-a-PC with. So i installed some computer games, namely Sid Meier’s Civilization IV. Am still trying to get used to turn-based games. My friends are, hey hey, Napoleon, Bismark and Elizabeth (guess which countries they represent!).

And then, there is the knitting.

Usually I would happy to get any opportunity to knit but this time, not really. When Nil is around, I don’t really knit unless I have a project to finish and the last time I did any serious knitting work was before the registration. It stopped after that so that I could spend time with him. Picking it back up meant that he has truly left. So to motivate me into getting back to working with yarn & needles, I have decided to do some commissioned knitting. I have a customer already and I hope to finish La Fleur Dore (I christened it that prior to this endeavour) by end of July/early August.

So yes…I’m trying to keep busy…but how do you keep busy just before you doze off?

*sob*

Nil just left today – for France. He starts some contractual work on Monday and if they like him, he’ll have a full-time job by September. So this means I won’t be seeing him for quite a while.

Suddenly, it feels lonely…and weird sleeping alone.

*sigh*

The Photoshoot!

All demure and totally different, no?

It was a lot of work (I kid you not!) – the fun part was perhaps that bit where you get to admire yourself in the mirror but otherwise, being told how to smile, how to move, how to pose and how to be a great statute ain’t so fun! Plus the shoes I bought? By the end of the night, they were killing me!

Take a pic of me, yes???

The outdoor was hot, hot and HOTTTTTTTTTTT so sorry, no previews of that. The pics here were taken very quickly during outfit changes and for the outdoor bit, things got a bit chaotic so no pics of that look.

Does this still look like me?

Anyway, I got to see some of the pics that the photographer (PG) took and…well, I like what I saw! Oh…one thing I liked? I got fantastic cleavage too! LOL! Now, to get some rest and look forward to the next week, when I get to choose pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More pics here.

Happy to find it 'almost' over!
