Remembering Virginia Tech…

…and Columbine High, Platte Canyon High School, Dawson College, Bath School and countless others.

In many ways, I’m glad that the school environment here, while as stressful as it is, doesn’t and has never had to face a situation where so many innocent lives were lost in a mere few seconds or minutes.

And yet, I am in awe of the human spirit and of people like Liviu Librescu who survived the Holocaust only to died in his attempt to barricade the lecture hall doors so that his students could escape. It is in times like this that I become more aware of the true responsibilities of a teacher – we are more than just educators. We are protectors who must be ready to give up our own lives for the sake of those in our charge.

In joining Edrei and in light of my rekindled love for academia, I too will not be blogging on April 30.

May God be with those affected by this tragedy.

Updates.

Knitting.
My knitting projects have been put on hold for the past few days as I have been busy with my exercise regime and wedding plans (see below). I picked up Ivy again yesterday and am glad to be knitting again. It makes me happy…as silly as that sounds.

My beaded shawl, (I’ve) Got The Blues, is on the backburner as I am aiming to finish as least the back and front piece of Ivy soon. Am thinking of using it for the RoM (Registration of Marriage)…but it’s just a thought. ^.~

Wedding.
My wedding site is slowly coming together with Nil finally passing me his version of “Our Story” but it’s still relatively empty since we have yet to check out the pre-wedding photo packages and so forth. I do have someone in mind for the RoM photography and am hoping that she’ll be able to make it!

On a happy note, I bought my first wedding-related purchase – shoes. Shoe and bag/luggage prices are expected to go up because of the increase in prices of leather goods (and you know how things are naturally in this country) so me and Mum went out (window-) shopping. She came away with a pair of sneakers while I bought two pairs of shoes – one for work and one to wear during the RoM and/or the pre-wedding photo shoot.

I still find it hard to believe though…me, getting married.

Life.
Imagine…my dreams of living life for a few months as an unemployed lady blogger did not materialise at all. Hai. I still find the whole process surreal, to say the least. Cannot say much because of the nature of things at work at the moment but all I’ll say is this: 18% EPF contribution is one heck of pay increase!

Going nuts.

So the trip to the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negeri was cancelled simply because I had this gut feeling that it would be pointless for me to go in the first place. I called them instead and thank goodness!

Apparently Nil will need a Single Status letter from the French Embassy here in KL together with his passport and a passport-sized photograph. We will not be able to fill in the forms on our own since the forms will have to be filled in there and then, then put up on this board. Then we’ll have to wait for about three weeks before we can go sign the papers at the RoM. That would be that we’ll be getting hitched earliest middle of June…and no, I still don’t have a damn date.

On his end, I’ll have to show up at the French Embassy twice – once before I sign the papers and again after I sign the papers – and gawd only knows how I’ll be able to cope with the forms which will all be in French. GAH!

:nono:

I’ve joined a local forum for brides and made up a wedding website for the whole experience (although I’m toying with the idea of migrating everything onto a subdomain here BUT the hyperlink would be oh-so-weird). The forum was a good idea – it was definitely an eyeopener to a lot of things and great for getting more info from other brides-to-be. The website is still under construction simply because I need Nil’s help in getting it set up but the design will be that – it would look nice on the wedding invites that I plan to make for the dinner in 2008.

I have a couple of ideas for the dinner itself, like getting the guests to participate rather than just sit and eat…but I’ll have to discuss this with Nil once he comes although honestly, he probably thinks I’m nuts, planning this early. Can’t be helped since my mum keeps bombarding me with stuff about bridal shoots and weddings plans.

So from between now till the actual RoM, I have heaps of paperwork, bridal studios (studios) to check out and a wedding exhibition to attend.

Entertaining a habit.

At least once a year, I go out and change my phone even when I don’t really have to. I know it’s a bad habit but sometimes it’s just a thought. I have managed to drag this one out to two years now (and still counting) so you could say that I’m getting better at this.

THEN I had to go to ebay.com.my and take a look at this puppy.

phone

BAD BAD BAD idea!

Hmmm…so yeah, NOW I am getting the itchy-buy-a-new-phone bug again. =.= Smack me please.

ps: I’ve switched to a new theme (thanks for all the suggestions!) but guess what? You can switch it if you like! Look for “Theme Switcher” at the sidebar and select from the choices in the dropdown menu. ^.^

About a month to go…

Nil is coming down in around a month’s time…and after that, he’ll no longer be my boyfriend. He’ll be my husband.

OH.MY.GOD.

Hm. Time to squeeze in some massive and very harmless flirting because in less than two months, it’ll be a sin to do all even (or only just) that.

Yes, I’m evil.

Tangy Shetland Cones

Spreading her wings just after an afternoon shower...

Tangy Shetland Cones
Pattern | Shetland Triangle from Wrap Style (Interweave Press)
Yarn | Handpaintedyarn.com Merino Lace (Citrus)
Needles | 4mm + 6mm circulars

This was a quick knit because of the very simple lace pattern…and I can understand why some knitters might have found this boring. By the 9th repeat, I was getting fed up so I rushed onwards to the edging but this time, with a little surprise up my sleeve.
