SP10 questions

For my SP10 partner! (And those of you would want to make me ultra happy!)

What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I haven’t been knitting with many different types – am boring in that sense. So far, it’s been just wool, cotton, acrylic and blends. My favourite would be handpainted wool yarn, especially moreso if it’s merino. It just feels utterly soft to the touch. I would really like to try knitting something with silk, angora or cashmere in it. On the other hand, I’m wary of trying out mohair (it can get itcky when I make an error and have to rip it) and absolutely no no NO novelty yarn like eyelash, boucle and all that. I have tonnes of those and have been trying to get rid of them for ages!

What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
I store my circulars, DPNs, stitch markers, row counters and other knick-knacks in this pretty rectangular mooncake box. My straight needles are in this calender/poster tube. I ought to take a pic of it. Been trying to get my hands on a nice needle roll…am either considering buying one or making one.

How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I picked up knitting about four years ago when I was studying in Sydney – walked into Lincraft, fell in love with all the yarn and bought large straight needles and a knitting pamplet. All I knitted back then were scarves. I stopped after I came back and picked it up again seriously last year. Graduated from scarves to hats, baby clothes and hopefully some shawls and tops soon. I’m probably around the advanced beginner stage.

Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Yup. Over here.

What’s your favorite scent?
Vanilla, floral, fruity…nothing musky or overpowering. I like gentle scents. Just to give you a clue, my favourite perfume is Tresor by Lancome and I have a tons of Body Shop stuff in Strawberry, Mango & Peach, Passionfruit and Africa Spa.

Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Don’t really have a sweet tooth. I like caramel and toffee but not chocolates. The only choc I would eat are Tim Tams or les pappilottes, and even then just one or two small pieces.

What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
Yup…a number actually. I picked up spinning on a DIY bottom-whorl spindle and with some Corriedale wool about a few months back. There is beading – that’s new – and I’m kind of interested in making my own stitch markers and jewelry. I also do some crocheting and cross-stitch but not really into those things. I would like to pick up quilting in the near future. Yes, it would appear that I like to try all sorts of things.

What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
New Age, ballads, pop, oldies – think Frank Sinatra, Il Divo and baroque music. ^.^ (And yes, MP3s are good.)

What’s your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can’t stand?
I’m pretty partial to earthy colours but as long as the hues match, it’s all great. Am not a big fan of opposing colours (like red + green OR turquoise + bright yellow).

Some colours...

What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
Dad is retired and Mum is a senior secretary on contract with a public listed engineering company here in M’sia. I have an older brother who has been married for nearly ten years now – no kids though. We live in a single story terrace house in a suburb just outside of Kuala Lumpur with three dogs – two mongrels and a cocker spaniel. Life’s good!

I’m getting married soon; am currently engaged to a fantastic rugby-loving Frenchie from Lyon. He can’t seem to understand my obsession with all things related to knitting and yarn. The man actually spaces out when I go on and on about knitting. O’well…can’t have them all.

Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
Yes but not in this weather. It is at least 32 degrees celsius here all year round. I prefer scarves, fingerless gloves and ponchos.

What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Haven’t knitted much so it’s difficult to say. I am into lace at the moment, specifically shawls. Am thinking of knitting some tunics, wraps, sweaters and shrugs soon. ^.^

What are you knitting right now?
Baby Apple – a simple baby jacket – and Raspberry Kisses – a Kiri shawl.

Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
Yup – why not?

Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Circulars – don’t really have to do any seaming! Bamboo is good but aluminum is fine too. Plastic is just oh-so-weird.

Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
Just got a yarn winder over Christmas. No swift yet.

How old is your oldest UFO?
Since June 2006, I think. Can’t really remember. I think I’ll frog it soon.

What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas. Snow snow snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there anything that you collect?
Postcards…stamps…and oh, how could I forget? EARRINGS! Tonnes of them!

Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
Mags & Book: Don’t really have any knitting mag subscriptions although Vogue and Interweave are very interesting. Books are on the wishlist, of course!

Needles: I’ve been hearing a lot about Addi Turbos and KnitPicks Option needles. We don’t get those here so it’s a bit difficult. Although I’m not much of craze about buying a specific brand. I just go with whatever that’s available.

Yarn: Handmaiden Seasilk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 (Everyone wants a Seasilk!) Well, that aside, I like handpainted yarn. It’s very unique!

Patterns: At the moment, Shallowtail, Lavender Garden, Peacock Feather (all shawls, btw) patterns out there. YUM!

Others: Dying…I’d love to try my hand on dying with Kool Aid but alas, no Kool Aid here and no undyed yarn (for sock/lace/etc). T.T

Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn?
Knitting socks with a circular needle…or two. Urm…intarsia? I’m too scared to try out colourwork. =.=

Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
Yes and no. I just started knitting socks but the project is on hold because I had to complete some gifts. Am going to pick it up again after I finish with my current projects. I’m a size 5 1/2, btw.

When is your birthday?
15 October 1979.
