Filing defamation suits appear to be in these days; everyone is suing just about everyone. The New Year has barely kicked started – it felt as if it was just yesterday…
Remember how bloggers have been told time and time again that people don’t take them seriously? That people shouldn’t take them seriously? That bloggers are just avid hobbyists? Of course I didn’t say all those things…even though I rarely talk about anything else but my life and knitting (or other hobbies).
The government used to tell us (I think they still do) that bloggers are just water of a duck’s back; that we are people who have nothing else to do but spread lies and rumours. The mainstream media paints us as wannabe journalists, as pariahs and mongrels of the politicial, social and economic commentary world.
Well if that were the case, wouldn’t filing a defamation suit against bloggers be the opposite of just that?
Think of this: a top English daily sueing two bloggers for defamation.
What’s next? The PM suing the common folk for saying he’s an awful PM who’s got his hands into everything (and it’s not to help)?
Tsk tsk.
