Growing older.

Today’s the first day of Intermediate Level 1 at Alliance Francais. There are nearly no pictures in my books and the excerpts are longer…way too long for comfort actually. Nil commented on them when I showed him the book via webcam.

You’re a big girl now!!! Your books don’t have pix any more!!!

Heh, funny but true. Too true. If you hadn’t known by now, I’ll tell you: I’ll be turning twenty-eight (edit: Chinese calender, that is – otherwise I’m turning twenty-seven) in less than two weeks. Two (or three depending on how you look at it) years more and I’ll hit the big 3-0 – the “every woman’s nightmare” nonsense.

Well, I don’t feel any different about turning twenty-seven/eight except that…

… a lot of my friends are slowly tying the knot, becoming wives and mothers
… most of my colleagues are getting younger and younger
… clubbing, drinking yourself to death and all those things are becoming less desirable and are things like e-dramas and e-fights (they are worse, actually)
… my taste is things have changed, moved if you will, to more mellow stuff like baking, knitting, cooking
… kids are beginning to call me “aunty” more often
… and so forth.

Strangest part of it is that it is beginning to sound less and less weird, yet deep down inside, I feel great…as if this is the best part of my life so far. I’m secure, I’m confident and most important of all, I’m truly happy. If this is what every woman my age is suppose to feel, then I have no idea why young girls dread hitting 3-0 anyway. On the contrary, I heard life only gets better after you hit 30.

Is it true?

  1. Yes, it’s true. Being in your 30s is much easier. I’m more relaxed about a great deal of things than I was in my 20s where I was constantly worried about my finances, career and if I’d have enough for everything (money, clothes, shoes, holiday).

Now, I realise that “the world isn’t going to end” if I get fired, break up, get rejected or when I’m temporarily stuck with a difficult client.

Oh, and one important lesson – those tiresome situations aren’t permanent. You’d always move on to bigger and better things.

[So agree with ya on the "bigger and better things" bit! :D: ]
