The NaNoWriMo craze!

Yup, that’s right.

The NaNoWriMo craze is back in town again and this time, I bet ya, it’s bigger than ever! Now before I go on with it, lets just get the basics out in the air…

NNWM, as we crazy Nanoers call it, is the abbreviation for National Novel Writing Month. It happens every year between October and November, but usually the real thing starts 1st of November.

So what so special about it, you may ask. Well…it is this:

Write 50K in one month.

Now some of you may think it’s easy but actually, the whole idea of NNWM is to get budding writers to attempt to write 50K of fiction/non-fiction. Those of you who are in writing will know the hardships and struggles of the writing business. Some start of all gung-ho about their novel only to fizzle out. Other lose the plot halfway. And well, the rest…they just give up.

NNWM is about changing all that. It is about churning out stuff only to look back at it later and edit – coz the editor in all of us sometimes can make it rough to churn out a good piece of work. I mean, what’s there to edit if you can never write substantially enough for you to edit in the first place?

Now, if you’d like to know more, feel free to wander around their FAQ page. It’s really fun! šŸ™‚

So, what’s in it for you – you may ask?

I’ll be honest. No prizes. Just bragging rights. And oh, the possible chance of getting nearer to your dreams of being published – if that’s what you dream of (like me).

This will be my third year with NNWM and it’s a wonderful experience. You meet tonnes of people, share ups and downs of your writing ‘career’ and establish great contacts and stuff. It was how I got to know Sharon Bakar, btw.

Oh, just to let you in on some ‘secrets’, we have huge plans this year for NNWM – one of which is getting our name out in the papers. We did it last year with a series in The Star…well, this year, we are hoping for more.

So if you have that itchy bug that speaks to you to write, and/or if you have nothing to do for the next few weeks (up till beginning of December), sign up! Forums will be open for registration tomorrow and join us in what could be the wackiest craze that ever hit the Internet.

See ya there! šŸ˜€
