Stole this from here – found it extremely interesting and good for some self-evaluation! Took me about one and half hours to complete!
20 years ago, 1985
- I was still staying in PJ – about sixteen houses away from where I’m currently living.
- I was six years old and just started my first level in primary school, SRK Sri Petaling.
- I got to school every day on Mum’s Pasola – a Vespa-like scooter.
- My tie was nearly as big as half of my face and my favourite hair-do were pigtails.
- During Chinese New Year, I accidently fell down in a drain in front of my house, right on top of firecrackers. Gack.
- My hobbies were reading and listening to Chinese music – Leong Chew Wai was my fave then.
- I lost my first pet – this white old male Spitz – when we had to move to Shah Alam. I cried and remember even wanting to chase down that MPPJ lorry/truck. I then realized that no matter what that bloody dog did to me, I’d always love it (it bit me once when I accidently pulled its tail while it was sleeping – I was such a cheeky bugger).
- My best friend was my neighbour…a girl my age who is now married – yesterday was her wedding dinner. We grew up to be two very different girls.

- I had moved twice – once to Shah Alam and once back down again to PJ – this time into the current place. Everyone couldn’t stand the traffic jam and I for one, cannot, fathom waking up at 5:30am just to beat the jam and reach school at 6am. ~_~
- I was in SM Assunta – an all-girls secondary school – by my own choice, a forth former and having the time of my life – so to speak.
- I was in the middle of a crush on my petbrother from Catholic High. Being in the Interact Club gave me opportunities to get to know guys but nothing ever materialized. Probably it was because I was more of a nerd than a babe, I thought then.
- My hobbies were still reading (I was a librarian – does that explain things better?) but I was into art now – sketching to be exact – and writing. This was the year I went crazy with writing and churned out four unfinished novels.
- My best friends and I were all separated into different classes and this was the time that I was starting to learn a few things about the world, people and life. Eventually, I drifted apart from them – only met up with them once this year…and will miss out on a wedding at the end of this year.
- I’m suddenly faced with the prospects that I’ll have to undergo open-heart surgery to correct a problem that I was born with.
- My relationship with my Mum is undergoing through some rapid changes. It’s crazy.
- Mum cut my hair…it surprisingly looked great.
- I talked a friend out of committing suicide.
5 years ago, 2000
- I turned 21 and as a birthday present, got my first car – a second-hand silver auto Kancil. It was later sold off to fund my postgraduate studies in Australia.
- I had just ended my first relationship with lots of tears – it had changed my relationship with my parents and thus, I spent this time fixing things.
- I was in my second year at Limkokwing, in the middle of a BA in Mass Communication and Multimedia (the middle of a love-hate relationship with the place).
- My best friends were a Maldivian guy (who is now editor of the English daily in Maldives), a married Malay lady from the royal house of Selangor with two gorgeous kids and a soft spoken girl I met two years earlier.
- My academic results were great and I started developing a sense of achievement and pride in my studies.
- I was still very much a nerd – self-labelling here, guys – and had my own dress-sense.
- I started part-time work with a few places but only during the holidays because I wanted to concentrate on my studies – market research, marketing and journalism. They were, in actual fact, my fourth and fifth if not fifth and sixth jobs.
- I was adjusting to the presence of a 7-inch scar on my chest.
3 years ago, 2002
- The first half of the year was spent on writing content for my first proper job upon graduation but then I decide that I wanted to pursue a postgraduate degree.
- I visited Sydney for the first time and Dad announces that he wants me to go off earlier and not waste time. So, my car and inheritence (the apartment in Shah Alam – our former home) is sold off to fund my studies. I left at the end of June – even though I was in a relationship with my ex already.
- I started my first semester away from home and adjusting to being ‘independent’ – do my own laundry, cooking and shyets.
- I got to know many people who are now friends – housemates, professors, peers, etc – from all around the world eg. France, Norway, US, China, Thailand, Australia, Switzerland, Japan, Singapore, Argentina…just to name a few.
- I began the pursuit of knowledge and educated myself in politics, global and social issues. The library became my favourite stop for books on my country’s history, culture and problems too. I wrote a few papers (on a variety of issues), which till today astounds me.
- I fell in love with Sydney.
- I started working with The Body Shop, Australia and developed one of the biggest craze over a cosmetic label. :p
- Discovered the joy of RPG games like Neverwinter Nights, Diablo II and Dungeon Siege. *bwahahaha*
Last year, 2004
- I commemorated the start of the year by breaking off with my ex and on his birthday too (I really had enough of it already) The relationship was becoming too much for me to handle. Spent the next couple of months trying to cope with all that negativity. Word: never stay in an abusive relationship for long. It can really change you.
- Went through a few ups and downs with men before meeting Nil on September 11.
- Was in middle of my job as an educator in a local college and enjoying every moment of it. Got my first bonus too and realized that teachers don’t work for money but for the passion – a lot of them anyway.
- I got my first credit card and went on to take on some of the household bills, namely the housing mortgage – which went to pay for my MA.
- Built some wonderful relationships with my former collegues and it brings joy to my heart to know that there are people like them out there in the world.
- I bought my desktop PC…and incured the wrath of my brother. :p
- I started travelling seriously on my own – something which till today surprises me.
This year, 2005
- Work was becoming crazy (got promoted but went through some shitty things) – I discovered what it was like to be embroiled in office politics – and so I switched jobs. It was the one I had been waiting for and I took it even though there was another one which would have done my relationship some good (or so I thought). It was a risky decision because I went without a job offer in hand. Everyone at work thought I was nuts – I think.
- My relationship with my parents are as wonderful as can be – and maybe even more. They have started seeing me as an adult and thus, have been very supportive of my decisions…including my relationship. It makes me happy to seem them getting on so well with Nil.
- I’m still learning a few things about people and life – through blogging and well, real-life contact with people.
- Realized that an inter-racial and inter-culture relationship ain’t as easy to maintain and work on as people make it out to be AND that men can be very very annoying yet lovable at times. I found my faith in love again.
- I started learning French. YAY!
Next year, 2006
- I hope to still remain in this job, learn more and perhaps move onto to more responsibilities.
- I hope that some of my friends will still remain some friends, although, I wouldn’t blame them if they went their separate ways in life.
- Hopefully, my bank account will start looking substantially.
- I plan to travel to a few more places with Nil – Mongolia, back to Australia, and mayhaps India or other places.
- I would like to see my current relationship go one step further.
- Hopefully, my brother will change his mind and have a kid – after being married for nearly seven years now!
10 years from now, 2015
- If it is meant to be, I’ll be relaxing in either Canada or France with perhaps two little ones to care of my own and am still very much in love with the hubby.
- I would have travelled to Greece, New Zealand and Spain.
- I will still be blogging and perhaps on my way to a first published book. :p
