I plucked this from a thread in one of the MSN Groups that I have been part of for a few years now and decided to chew on some thoughts revolving around the topic of love.

As one forum-goer mentioned:

We talk about love, it is looking towards the loved one’s ultimate well being. In this context, consideration is a continuous thoughful and sympathetic regard towards the loved one. Giving because we can and because we want to – as it makes us happy to do so. Not because we want to satisfy some “expectation” place upon us. There is the difference, that which is implicit and that which is explicit. For me, I find his words interesting yet amusing – simply because there are two sides to it.

Admist the criticisms, praises and ‘reports‘, I wonder to myself. Am I one of the few out there who see this differently?

Millions of people around the world die from poverty every day. According to the UNHDR, one in five of the world’s people live on less than USD1 a day (taken from the book 50 Facts that should change the world).

Poverty is not just a matter of a lack of material wealth – the ability to buy bread, say or basic farming tools. Where there is poverty, people do not get access to medicine or healthcare, so their years of healthy life are diminished. Rather than staying in school or receiving training, children are sent out to work. The cycle of ill health and deprivation is hard to break. People living in poverty are vulnerable and they are voiceless. They easily fall prey to crime and violence. A young woman in Jamaica sums up her feelings: she says poverty is ‘like living in a jail, living in bondage, waiting to be free’.
