They arrested him again!

The first time around, most people were shocked to hear allegations that he committed sodomy - an illegal offence according to M’sia’s Penal Law (which also dictates that rapists get away with less than 10 years of imprisonment - in other words, it’s outdated). Him, a family man, loving husband and father of two daughters. Of course there were the corruption charges which pissed people off further. Why target just him alone when countless others are guilty of the same charge (corruption)?

As the trial progressed, it became clear that it was a political set-up. He was a threat and had to be removed. At that time, perhaps, for good reasons. It’s not very clear actually. Many people hypothesized that he had to go because he was too friendly with the Americans and threatened to bring in the IMF to bolster M’sia’s then-not-so-strong economy. It wasn’t exactly a smart idea considering what happened to Indonesia once the IMF stepped out. So out he went.

Nearly ten years down the road and we’re back to the same story again. From The Star’s story here,

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (doesn’t anyone sub this over at The Star?) arrived at the city police headquarters here at 1.15pm Wednesday in a white Pajero after being arrested by the police.

He was earlier arrested in front of his house in Bukit Segambut.

His lawyer Sankara Nair said the police told Anwar that he was being arrested for investigations under Section 377C of the Penal Code for alleged “carnal intercourse against the order of nature.”

On June 28, his 23-year-old former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan had lodged a police report alleging that Anwar had sodomised him.

If you don’t think that there’s anything fishy with this, think again. This came right after he revealed that he had acquired evidence that implicated some top ranking people in the government for misconduct and fabrication of evidence during his ‘99 trial for corruption and sodomy. There were also several other things he knew a thing or two about like the involvement of the Prime Minister in “covering up” a very high-profile murder case.

What irks me is this - why is a government who professes to be part of the modern democracy system resorting to dictator, tyrannical methods such as arresting a member of the opposition, rubbing shit all over their public image (publishing articles non-stop about the “woes” of homosexuality) and so forth. It has happened to others but this is over the top. To make matters worse, it makes news overseas and turns us M’sians, yes, even the ones abroad, into a laughingstock. The speed the police worked is amazing - they take less than one month to work on the reports and arrest people.

I don’t see them doing the same for rapists, murderers, snatch thieves and hell, corrupted politicians. In fact, they excuse it to “trying to do a good job”. Good job, my arse.

If it were possible at all, the first thing I’d do is bytch slap the Prime Minister and tell him this - “Look dude, what you’re doing is not in the best interest of the people. As PM, that should be your priority, serving the public, the citizens of your nation NOT your cronies or yourself.”

  1. Its more surprising that our beloved dpm has not been asked to go to police station yet.

  2. Actually, all that they’re doing now is showing the public that they’re the baddies who are way above the law for their own crimes.
